Atmospheric Scientists

We are passionate about environmental issues affecting the province and we represent a dedicated team made up of individuals and organizations across Alberta seeking to provide open and transparent access to scientific data and information on the condition of the environment.

We are searching for several experienced, collaborative, results driven Atmospheric Scientists to join our interdisciplinary science team to help transform and improve Alberta’s environmental monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems. This role provides scientific and technical expertise and leadership in the area of ambient air quality and atmospheric science. To be a successful candidate you must be a recognized expert in your field with a strong scientific publication and technology transfer record. As well, our Atmospheric Scientists will collaborate with peers and relevant external experts in establishing and fostering interdisciplinary monitoring; comprehensive and routine evaluation of data; and supportive research activities that contribute new knowledge on the status and trends in local, regional and provincial air quality.

Qualifications:

  • Applications are being sought from Ph.D. graduates from an accredited University along with 5 years atmospheric chemistry or science experience. The Atmospheric Scientists we are seeking must have experience in one or more specific air science disciplines including, but not limited to, atmospheric chemistry, ambient air quality, atmospheric deposition of contaminants (organic and inorganic), acidifying emissions or air quality modelling. A combination of education and experience will be considered as equivalencies.
  • Proven track record in the production of peer-reviewed scientific publications, writing scientific reports, proposals and workplans.
  • Strong analytical capabilities (e.g., spatial statistics, modelling), relational database and data interpretation skills.
  • Experience or familiarity with air quality monitoring, GIS technologies and relevant data systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to develop and deliver presentations to senior executives, key stakeholders, the scientific community and public audiences.
  • Experience leading and working in multidisciplinary scientific teams.
  • Experience in linking different knowledge systems (e.g., western science with indigenous knowledge) is an asset.
