traditional ecological knowledge
Recognizing that high quality data and information can also be obtained through Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) incorporating such information into aemera.org will enhance the science-based system.
Through a consultation process held with First Nations and Metis Organizations three key areas of interest arose: capacity to participate in monitoring activities, ability for communities to influence monitoring plans and priorities, and support the gathering and use of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK). The TEK Advisory Panel will play an essential role in the overall design of the MER system. The MER system will promote the mutual respect between the domains of TEK and conventional science.
It is aemera.org’s intention that the TEK Advisory Panel will include experts who are respected and credible in both the scientific and aboriginal communities and have an awareness and understanding of environmental global issues in addition to the environmental issues in Alberta.
