Focused Study

A focused study is short-term monitoring designed to address questions arising from long-term monitoring or other specific purposes - for example, testing a scientific hypothesis or testing a new methodology.

Improvements to Modeling to Integrate Data (Deposition Modeling)

Project Outline Objectives: To monitor air quality and deposition at the remote FH ecosystem sites, co-located with continuous monitoring instruments for validation of the passive measurements, in order to provide the data necessary to establish cause-effect linkage, and evaluate ecosystem effects due to air emissions. Key Outcomes: More credible data on deposition to ecosystems and […]

Initial Project Scoping for Sampling within the Peace Oil Sands Area

Project Outline Objectives: Identify distribution and abundance of fish species in representative areas of the Peace oil sands to provide the baseline necessary to design an effective fish monitoring program. Key outcomes: Pilot information to better inform design of future programs (estimates of variability, scoping of access, gear utility). Geographic Scope: Peace oil sands area

Modeling - Regional Hydrology / Climatology

Project Outline Objectives: To provide critical knowledge and improved predictive capability for water availability and sediment/contaminant transport in the LAR. Knowledge generated from this aspect of the focused study will inform core monitoring and stakeholders of the hydro-climatic conditions that may impact monitoring needs and management decisions. Key Outcomes: Using the process based and distributed […]

Groundwater/Surface Water Interactions

Project Outline The project will complete the outstanding chemical/isotope analyses from existing samples, data analyses and reporting/publications on: (1) the assessment approach developed by Environment Canada under the JOSMP (2012-2015) and tested on the MacKay River in 2014/15 and (2) the JOSMP source attribution study on a documented OSPW groundwater plume (2014/15). Objectives: Develop and […]
