Come join the Alberta Environmental Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Agency (AEMERA). We are an arm’s length provincial organization responsible for measuring, assessing and informing the public on the condition of Alberta’s environment. The Air Monitoring field staff are responsible for collecting and validating ambient air data throughout the province.
As a Monitoring Systems Auditor, you will follow standard operating procedures, work with third party contractors and trouble-shoot, repair and calibrate ambient air analyzers. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Ambient Air Monitoring Audit Program. This includes conducting regular performance audits of ambient air monitoring stations and associated ambient air monitoring equipment throughout Alberta as well as the ongoing preventative maintenance of the program’s audit equipment. Qualifications:
A technical diploma in Environmental Sciences, or a related field along with a minimum of six years of directly related experience is required. Skills may include environmental field sample collection, and using analog and digital datalogging equipment and programs. Experience maintaining, repairing and applying operation principles of ambient air analyzers is required. Experience with report writing, software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and databases is also needed in the role. Knowledge regarding occupational health and safety codes or hazard assessments is an asset. Application of related legislation such as Alberta’s Air Monitoring Directive (as amended) and Alberta’s Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and Release Reporting Guidelines is an asset. A membership with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professional of Alberta (ASET) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) is considered an asset.
Equivalencies will be considered and are outlined below:
- Related university degree with 4 years related experience specified above.
- Related master’s degree with 1 year related experience specified above.
- No post-secondary and 8 years directly related experience specified above.
Note: A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required to operate large trucks and haul large specialized trailers. A driver’s abstract will be required if you are selected for an interview. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds is required to move heavy equipment short distances.
This position will require you to work outside in adverse weather and road conditions. Long hours and/or weekend work may become necessary in the field at any time. It is difficult to determine until you are analyzing on site and therefore flexibility is essential. Travel throughout the province is required year-round; the incumbent will be travelling two days at least twice a month.
