We are passionate about environmental issues affecting the province and we represent a dedicated team made up of individuals and organizations across Alberta seeking to provide open and transparent access to scientific data and information on the condition of the environment.
We are searching for two experienced, collaborative, and results driven Water Quality Data Analysts to join our interdisciplinary science team. They will help with transforming and improving Alberta’s environmental monitoring, evaluation and reporting systems.
More specifically, this role is responsible for:
- Management of surface and ground water quality data (historical and near real time).
- Maintenance of water quality data archive systems for the Agency.
- Providing expert data and information management services, including development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data acquisition, data quality assurance (QA/QC), data storage, retrieval and reporting.
- Maintenance of the content and ensuring the consistency of the water quality data systems’ data models, metadata, and data dictionaries.
- Supporting business system development and enhancement projects in order to aid the continuous improvement of the Agency’s surface/ground water quality information systems through liaising and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, water resources, hydrology, hydrogeology or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of experience managing environmental data including surface and ground water quality data.
- The equivalency of a related post-secondary diploma and 4 years related experience as specified above will also be considered.
- Extensive knowledge of internationally accepted Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards and protocols and modern data decoding techniques as applicable to environmental data.
- Application of environmental data collection methods, chemical measurements, laboratory instruments and analytical methods, codes and procedures.
- Experience handling large data sets, database table structures and statistical analysis and procedures.
- Experience with database design and implementation. GIS and spatial geodatabases are preferred.
