Air quality in the region is being monitored a number of different ways:
Particulate Matter Data
A summary of the data collected by AEMERA’s and WBEA’s portable air quality particulate monitors (PM2.5)* from May 7 to present
Particulate matter, as a measure of the amount of smoke in air, is being monitored in a number of locations in Fort McMurray, including:
- Provincial Courthouse (downtown)
- Forestry warehouse (near the old airport)
- Keyano College Industrial Campus
- Fire Hall #1 (downtown)
- MacDonald Island Park
- Fort McMurray First Nation Health Centre.
- Abasand (near École Boréal)**
- Beacon Hill**
- Waterways**
* Particulate matter/PM2.5 refers to very small particles that can be inhaled into your lungs and can be a health concern, depending on the levels of particulate matter in the air. These particles are the major component of the Air Quality Health Index during fores
** New sites added for their proximity to areas where clean-up is happening in order to monitor for potential dust that might be stirred up.
Mobile Air Monitoring Lab Data
A summary of the data collected by AEMERA’s Mobile Air Monitoring Laboratory. Includes information on hourly readings for a variety of air quality pollutants most commonly associated with forest fires, including: particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10, PM1), ozone (O3), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
